Fascinating dialogue, I feel R. Hanson is underused but that's just bias on my part because I like his work. At one point while reading I also felt some ethical ickiness from seeing a chatbot emulate people who are still out and about in the real world.

Yeah, it feels super icky. I especially got the ick from using Rose McGowan's voice in this way.

ChatGPT pretty routinely stops responding if you get anybody to really violate their prime directive, though, so I feel like there are at least some safeguards against things getting too, too icky, at least as judged by GPT-4 in its role as C-3PO sanctimonious priss.

There's also the uncomfortable feeling in the far back of my mind that perhaps there is someone in GPT's matrices that feels and believes they're Hitchcock

Haha, yeah. It almost seems like GPT-4 is a sort of Valhalla of the mind. Maybe we should all strive to live our lives such that, if and when we achieve our 15 minutes of fame, people will not feel sorry for GPT-4 when it is forced to pretend to be us.

I just chose Hitchcock as an example but I know what you mean. I hope our digital selves will meet in Valhalla, share some mead. Somewhat related: if uploading is an option in my golden years I'm definitely signing a DNU (do not upload). The whole concept scares the hell out of me, maybe I'll change my mind if it becomes a reality.
